Blik wall graphics - decorate and save some birds

I just moved and was looking for things to put on my empty white walls and found blik wall graphics, stick-on decals that are much much easier than that whole stenciling business. The decals are fully removable so you don't leave any residue on the walls and you can easily switch from space invaders to flying birds.

About those birds- I was just reading about how millions of birds die every year as they head back north for the warm months, many of them from crashing into clear glass windows. If you put something big and colorful like these blik decals on your windows, you can help them navigate around the glass. Keeping the lights off behind windows at night will help the birds too, as they won't be tricked into thinking they are heading into a safe space inside.

Blik also makes decals for decorating everything from drinking glasses to cell phones.

Wall graphics packages range from $35-$50 at blik.

MPIO-one micro media player

I don't know how practical the MPIO-one is, considering it's a movie player with a ONE inch screen, but it certainly solves the problem of portable media players being too bulky to really carry around easily. It's flash memory so it's extremely lightweight, just over an ounce, but storage only goes up to 1 GB. The MPIO-one can play mp3 and wma files as well as jpeg images and text. Of course you'll go blind trying to see anything on the screen, but it can be done. The MPIO-one, unlike so many other media players actually comes with software that will convert many types of video files (ASF, AVI, MPEG, WMV) into an MPEG-4 file that's playable on the device.

I saw lots of movie players of this size at CES in January, and while I was predictably blown away by their tiny size, they weren't exactly very useful. I am pretty skeptical about anybody ever getting the portable movie player right because I'm not sure there's a need. If you've got time to painstakingly convert video at home, you've got time to watch America's Next Top Model (not that I do). I latched on to the idea quickly and had an Archos Multimedia Jukebox with a 2 inch screen several years ago and watched half a season of Buffy on it, but because the battery life was so bad, I had to do it while the thing was plugged in, which, of course, defeats the purpose of having a portable. My niece has one of the newer players and while the battery life is a little better, rarely will it stay alive long enough to let you watch an entire feature-length movie.

MPIO-one will be available in May in Japan, no announcements for the rest of the world yet.

Aroma personal espresso machine

I have just in the last week come to terms with my caffeine addiction when I was observed having Jennifer Jason Leigh in Rush-like crashes when I didn't have a coffee by mid-afternoon. At one point I got desperate enough to guzzle Red Bull just so I could stand up. I wish I'd had an Aroma espresso machine instead. It's a personal espresso machine that's small enough to carry in your handbag or briefcase so you can brew a cup no matter where you are. The clear cylinder lets you watch the coffee brew as you agonizingly wait for it to finish.

I am so sad that I can't actually get this yet. David Mansueto, the Australian designer of Aroma, is seeking help to bring this very important product to market.

In the meantime, chocolate espresso beans are a really good way to have portable caffeine fixes.

Hello Kitty Xbox

Well, Camilla will laugh at me and popgadget readers will beg Mia to sack me for being so HK-obsessed. Anyway, if you're not already the proud owner of an Xbox, you might consider investing in one and getting endless delights with the Hello Kitty Mission Rescue in which our favourite pink hero saves her hometown from the invasion of nasty warriors.

Pac-Pix for DS

I know my tastes are often quite predictable, but Pac Man still remains one of my favorite games. Pac Man has really had an influence on my productivity at various stages in my life, peaking during the "dotcom era," when a Miss Pac-Man machine was boldly introduced into the company's office . . . from that moment on my willpower was really put to the test.

Today Pac Man is debuting its comeback with a whole new game. Namco Hometek announced that Pac-Pix, Pac Man,Aeos newest evolution for the DS, has shipped to retail outlets and this time we will be able to control the famous yellow dot in a whole new way: with the DS stylus.

Gamespot has a review and screenshots of the game that will be available for $29.99.

Good/Bad mail organizer

A brushed stainless steel mail organizer set, by French designer Dominique Brunet, to separate good news from bad news.

To install it all you have to do is hang each piece to nail on the wall. It might be trickier to train the postman and explain to him/her that's it's a matter of survival for you to have a pre-selection of your mail.

Get ready for desktop fondue party

Yes, you too can become the Queen of Melted Gruyere at the office thanks to the desktop USB fondue set. It features an LCD display, blue LED glowing heater element, six (yes, six!) fondue forks and fireglow USB cables.

You plug it into your computer, heat for 10 minutes, then dip in and enjoy some authentic Swiss cuisine.

Dog booties

As if it isn't already hard enough to resist buying yet another pair of shoes for ourselves, now we will have to worry about being tempted to buy fancy boots for our loyal friends. On glamourdog.com you can purchase a set of 4 Lilyboots for $55.00.

"These booties feature vinyl and neoprene construction with rubber soles to combine high end fashion and durability. The shoes are fastened with Velcro straps and a zipper closure for a secure fit."

Judging from the picture, the little dog booties don't seem to be very comfortable and the portrayed dog looks quite unhappy. But hey, if your dog can't even wear boots, how can it expect to ever get married, right? Because I am sure that the $130.00 wedding dress and the $120.00 tux are just worth it.

Finally, if you are worried about how to determine the paw size of your dog, don't worry, glamourdog has a very helpful paw size chart, but be careful not to place your dog's paws on the monitor to determine the size, which, based on the importance that the site gives to this quite odd warning, must be happening relatively often.

Hello Kitty Cell Phone

I am sure Regine will like this phone, because she sure seems to be quite Hello Kitty obsessed as I am. The Hello Kitty mobile phone can be purchased in Asia, or on dreamkitty.com for $679.99 . . . or we can just hope someone will send us an evaluation copy (hint, hint).

In celebration of Hello Kitty's 30th anniversary, Taiwanese manufacturer OKWAP has dedicated two different models to the most popular cat, the A267 and the i516. Both phones have built in cameras and come with a set of Hello Kitty pictures, wallpapers and animations that can be displayed on their color screens. And to make the phones even more desirable, they both come with Hello Kitty accessories: hands-free kit, PC Companion Software (English or Chinese) plus USB data cable, Kitty phone pouch (all pink), power adapter/charger plus travel adapter, second battery (matching color), key ring mascot.
