i-Mature biometric age verifier
i-Mature has developed a device that scans finger bones to determine the age of the user. i-Mature hopes to use this "Age Group Recognition" as a way to keep children from entering adult sites on the Internet and to keep adults out of sites meant for children. The scanner measures bone density via ultrasound and then categorizes the user as a child under 13, a teen from 13 to 17, or an adult 18 or over. While pinpointing an exact age would be difficult, i-Mature believes they can get 100% accuracy in separating the under 13s from the over 18s.
The prototype is still in development and should be ready for testing by June 2005.
