Hangover Cures

New Year's revelers may have an easier time of it tomorrow morning if they chase the champagne with some prickly pear extract. A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that prickly pear helped prevent hangover symptoms like nausea and excessive thirst. It's not easy to find the cactus fruit, but you can buy the extract in capsules.
Chaser, a popular hangover remedy, is supposed to prevent the hangover from ever occurring. Activated charcoal and calcium supposedly absorb the congeners (the chemicals that cause most of the after-party misery) before they can cause headaches.
If you're in London or New York City, you can try a Hangover Herbie, Bliss Spa's package of facial, anti-migraine massage, oxygen spray, and a fruit smoothie.
My favorite solution comes from Bookofjoe and involves soaking in a tub steeped with wasabi. Wasabi Hangover Bath Treatment contains mustard, ginger, and salt for potent "detoxifying".
Have a safe and happy New Year's Eve and a wonderful 2005.
