High maintenance and highly shallow dolls
Last year, Mattel created the Barbie geek girl and a few weeks ago, its Indian branch updated the text-messaging doll by giving her Instant Messaging talents.
The doll comes with a working mobile phone, with which girls can message Barbie, but also their own friends who have a similar doll. And change the look of the phone to match Barbie's dress (via textually.)
Now, cosmetics retailer Sephora is launching the Mattel Nolee doll, supposedly to represent today,Aeos independent, informed, and fiercely individualistic urban girl.
Nolee is a multi-cultural doll whose favorite place to go is Sephora. This doll captures the fashion-forward, chic attitude of teens and their favorite place to shop. Manned with a cell phone, a PDA and an attitude, Nolee is ready to shop.
How about a doll that would convey a less superficial and vapid image of the "modern girl"? She could be eco-conscious, play video games, visit science museum, etc.
