Scholarship for Women Game Developers
WomenGamers.com and The Guildhall at SMU are offering a scholarship for women to attend the 18-month digital gaming program. Tuition for the certificate program is $37,000 but the amount of the scholarship has not yet been announced. While women make up 39% of gamers and actually buy as many games as men, the gaming field is still overwhelmingly male.
NYU just started an intensive game development camp for teenagers and I was disappointed but not really surprised to hear that the first group of campers didn't include a single female.
The scholarship fund is being assisted by Mary-Margaret.com, an interactive entertainment recruitment firm started by two women, Mary Margaret Walker and Robin Chenoweth McShaffry.
Potential applicants and sponsors can find out more at WomenGamers.
