Get Ready for Political Spam
Advocacy, oops @dvocacy Inc., is utilizing voter registration databases cross-referenced with other email databases to create "targeted specific voter populations" to sell to political candidates and lobbyists. @dvocacy Inc., led by CEO Roger Alan Stone, can easily create a list of young female Democrats who like to catalog shop, for instance, and sell it to the highest bidder. This is wonderful news, as if it weren't already hard enough to convince people to register to vote.
Business has been brisk. Stone said he has 60 clients, including 20 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 15 candidates for Congress, nine state or local ballot initiatives and a dozen interest groups including the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Council for a Livable World. "We are adding at least 10 new clients a week and the pace is growing rapidly," he said.
