A Small Small World

It's hard to be a celebrity in this world, what with all the travel to glamorous locales like St. Moritz, Cannes, and Ibiza. It probably gets very lonely. Where could a supermodel find a friend in a city she's never been to before? Supposedly, on aSmallWorld, an invitation only social networking site for the rich and fabulous. It's so exclusive you can't even click on the links to see if it's for real.

We list the most popular restaurants, hotels, and night clubs in over 40 major cities, summer and winter resorts and we keep track of major events, parties, exhibitions, film and music festivals and sporting events such as motor racing, tennis, sailing, golf, and others.

Anon:

Asmallworld is for real; I just got an invitation from a friend, and yes - Naomi Campbell and Tiger Woods are on there, along with a host of European jet setters and aristocrats.

I have yet to go to one of the hookups, so I'll be able to report more once I've had a chance to socialize with the folks from the site. Social interchange seems not to occur online so much, but the online is a mechanism to facilitate real world socializing.

To be honest, while the exclusivity does stick in the craw, the impact of having the contact feature so restricted is great. It encourages people to leave their virutal life and meet each other. And that, in my humble opinion, is where the interent usually falls down.
